I'm not normally Christianity's biggest fan

This is a little chapel (or a shrine) south of Sierra Vista, in Arizona, Our Lady of the Sierras. I've only been there once, but I'm sad now because it is one of the casualties of the Monument fire. I am especially sad now that I didn't remember to take my camera when I went there. (Added: The Gallery appears to be working again, at least.) But, kind of like New Orleans, I'm glad I managed to visit first. And I'm planning to help with restoration, in what little way I can.

It was open to all for meditation and private contemplation, so much more than just a Christian site. I'm sad to hear this. I attended a sunrise service there once and spent time in meditation. It was beautiful and I'm glad I got to see it before this. *sigh*

Reading up on the news there, I noted that Fort Huachuca is in the fire's path. Worrisome.

It's mostly stone, so I'm hoping that rebuilding will be easy. (And, as Rose and I commented, we'd be willing to help a little extra if maybe this time Jesus could be a little less white.)
There's a concern that the cross, being concrete, may have suffered damage from the heat, but we'll see.

And I figure if anybody is prepared for a fire, it's the gang at Fort Huachuca.
