This is crazy

Some of you out there think I'm a music snob.
For those people, I present this telling anecdote.
Recently I had that Carly May Carly Rae "Call me baby" song stuck in my head. And I whistled it. Where people could hear me.
Game. Set Match.

Enh. Come back when you've whistled Katy Perry in public, and maybe I'll believe you.

Let me know if she writes something catchy.

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhm. *Every* damn thing she writes is catchy. That's what makes her music so insidious - it's mostly just as vapid and shallow as she is (or as her persona is, anyway), but once it's in your head you can't get it out.

....I guess it's time for a trip to the Youtubes, then.

"I Kissed A Girl", "Hot and Cold", and "Firework" are the three that get stuck in my head most often. But really, I have yet to hear anything by her that isn't at least a bit catchy. Which is, I suppose, the whole point of being a mass-produced pop star - appeal to as many people as possible.

I personally find ET extremely ear-wormy. But not with the Kanye West part.

I appreciate the advice. This is why you remain my Pop Czar.

I'm...not sure if that's a compliment. :)

You know things that I do not, and relate those things to me in a useful format.
I think that's awesome.

I cannot actually hear "I Kissed A Girl" without immediately mentally replacing it with "I Kissed A Nerd" by the Damsels of Dorkington. Who rock, by the way, and are one of the shows I always make it a point to go to at GenCon.

*sigh* Yes, I'll do your Googling for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arjiHvkVXfA

"California Girls" gets stuck in my head all the time. The local junior high choir sang "Firework" at the 8th grade (my daughter's) graduation - it works surprisingly well.

Yeah, she's definitely an earworm. It's pleasantly peppy soft-core pop.

Bah. This album only has one of those songs. I see that I will end up on the Youtubes anyway.

I can listen to a new song by her maybe three times before I vehemently smash buttons to be rid of her.

FYI, her name is Carly Rae Jepsen.

Yeah, someone we know is a HUGE fan. :)

I just see all of the Tumblr posts that use that song.

I saw the video (and thus learned about the song) through your huge fan.

Danica loves that song. I had to download it.

I never considered you a music snob, just musically diverse. You appreciate many styles of music. Some I like. Some I love. Some that make me want to claw my ears out. :)

That's because you are sensible and intelligent.
Unlike some young ladies of my acquaintance.
Whose names I shall not mention here.
