I might just get lucky
So is there some sort of instruction guide for playing the lottery? I mean, I know it involves picking numbers and throwing your money into a vast and gaping void, but I walk into my friendly local convenience store and there are like seventeen different tickets with exciting and brightly colored graphics; I quickly become confused about how it all works.
But I figure that if my career path is to win the lottery and become independently wealthy, the first step is to buy a ticket.

What you play depends how much money you want to waste, given the odds of my being struck by lightning as I type this are better than any single person winning. If you are looking for the astronomically poor odds and enormous pay out, you want the Lotto or Megabucks tickets. There are other games that pay much less and have better odds.
I'm a little surprised you didn't search the Net. I'm sure the state of CA has a website about this. After all, the lottery really is taxation of the willing.

For some reason, I hadn't thought to search the web for a page on how to play the lottery. ...Off I go!
