And it's off with the rum and the bibles

Some day when I am feeling flush I want to go to this restaurant. And somebody else should drive because they have RUM DRINKS.

I'm sure I had more to say. But it's all gone now. It's hot.

I'll drive ;-)

[identity profile] cerulean-me.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Though we'll miss the fun that is me getting tipsy :D

Or at least postpone it.

I'm avoiding the booze... that whole fear of addiction deal.

I too am happy to drive, and eat, and have a good cigar afterwards.

Perhaps I should open this up to the general public once I have it planned. (:
Somewhere, at some point, I took it into my head to want to sample some Cuban cuisine. I might as well share it with friends.

I have been there, and even better, eaten on someone else's expense account. It is well worth the trip!

That is precisely what I had hoped to hear from one of my epicurean friends. (:

And speaking of Hemingway, I heard from Alton that the original "dacquiri" was not a frozen/blended fruity thing, but was in actuality nothing more than:
rum
fresh-squeezed lime juice
sugar
I made one for myself and it was nice, even though I was a total heretic and used bottled lime juice from concentrate. I don't think it was as nice as a mojito, but I would try it again.

mmmmmmm mojito.
Mo. Hee. To.
It's *not* a girly drink.

I learned that from Alton too, and oh, it is *so* good. Especially when it was really hot this past weekend.

Been there, ate that. It was tasty, and pretty close (Palo Alto, Cal Ave.). It gets really crowded on weekend nights, as it's a hip place to be.

Excellent!
Well the news is. I'm likely to shy away from hip places out of fear of being mistaken for hip. Plus hip people tend to make me want to punch them right in the face. But I like tasty!

Stu and I went once. It was good. But Habana in SJ (on Race, IIRC) was better, or at least more authentic if you really want to get a feel for Cuban food.

Oooo. Do they have RUM DRINKS? I am intrigued by things with lime juice and cherry liquor. Also, what are the prices like? The bodeguita strikes me as a little spendy.

[identity profile] lil-m-moses.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe they have a full bar, though they only list a couple of specialty drinks in their menu. Prices are more reasonable than La Bodeguita del Medio, but it's not _cheap_.
