Playing the waiting game

So you know how, every trip, there's the one thing that I forget to bring?
It looks like this trip the thing I forgot was tonight's dinner. It's still sitting in the fridge. q:
And on another note, apparently my deodorant stick was not solid enough for security. So until I can get to the Safeway by SeaTac I'll just be stinky.

You. Are. Fucking. Kidding me.

Nope. It was apparently too gel-like. I figured that if it didn't squeeze up through little slots in the container and instead twisted up in a bar then it was probably a solid. I was mistaken.

(My general experience is that a lot of things are still firmly in the category of 'when you arrive at security, the person who inspects your bags and their current mood will determine what gets through security and what doesn't.')

And I'll bet they have a big, lined garbage can right there, don't they, for throwing all this deoderant/makeup/bottled water into? Nevermind that if it were dangerous, they probably shouldn't have it right by security where someone could detonate it with their remote detonation device MP3 player.

Sheeple will do anything. Next the TSA will declare that it's dangerous to let you fly without proving you're not a terrorist, and everyone will be required to carry a KJV under one arm, and all the sheeple will clamour and say "it's only a little inconvenient, you're over-reacting!"

The line I keep hearing, whether it's because all the Liberal Media keep hunting down the right people to talk to or because we're all just like that, is "Well, it's a little inconvenient, but as long as it makes us safe...."
Except, of course, that it doesn't. It just makes us feel like we're safer.

Amen.

Also amen.

Oh, yeah. That makes me feel *loads* safer. (eye roll)

Not if you're sitting next to me on the flight to Seattle, it doesn't. (:
But, as I pontificated above, the object is not to make us actually safer, but to frighten us and then to make us *feel* safer.
I wonder if making comments like this could get me fired.

Unfortunately, as one of your friends obliquely mentioned, the only way to really be safe is to do some profiling, racial and otherwise. But if the Liberal Establishment got wind of that, we'd never hear the end of the lawsuits.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm dubious about the word 'only' here. And is there a Liberal Establishment?
I do notice that nobody suggested after the McVeigh bombings that we start pulling over white people randomly and checking their trunks for manure. I don't know what the liberals would think of that idea.

[identity profile] miss-friday.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
No one mentioned discretely checking large manure purchases, especially to those who've never bought the stuff before. Maybe they should have, or maybe they do and we don't know.

But a little profiling would be useful. The likelihood of the mother with the 2 year-old twins in the stroller boarding a plane to Minot being a terrorist is rather low. On the other hand the single male who has been back and forth between Paris and New York three times in four weeks who three months ago spent two weeks in Ethiopia, is someone I'd like the TSA to physically inspect their luggage before letting them on a plane.

Yes, there is a Liberal Establishment. The Liberal Media is its corner stone. Conversely there is a Conservative Gang, which is spearheaded by Fox News (We report irresponsibly. You don't need to decide. TM). Both make my ass twitch.
