I ain't no fortunate son

So I realize we're coming up on an election, which is why we're suddenly actually concerned with airport security. But is there any other reason for the recent release of 9/11 911 tapes? I've been poking at articles and I haven't seen anything--did somebody make a FOI act request? Did the 9/11 Comission release them into public domain just now, almost five years later?
I'm certain there's some sort of 'last hurdle just cleared' but I can't find out what it was, and wonder if anybody else knows.

You likely answered your own question: It's the fifth anniversary.

But... it's the four year and eleven month anniversary, otherwise I'd think "Well I guess after five years emergency call records become public and everybody can listen to them." And so it sounds... not right. Maybe it is, though.

I would think doing it right on the anniversary would be rather gauche.

I'm not certain that I want 'gauche' to be a consideration for governmental guidelines for information release.
I'm not certain the government, in its bureaucratic heart, has much consideration for 'gauche'.
I do not deny that it's possible that somebody in the Port Authority office (or whoever is in charge of holding those records private) said "It would be more considerate to release these records a month early," but I'm not convinced.

Honestly? I assumed it was tied up with the movie some how... I'm seriously fucked up though.

I'm hoping that the government doesn't base its release of documents and records on Oliver Stone's release of films. If this was a government sponsored publicity junket I would be even more disappointed than I was before.
*sigh* I hope your day is getting better.

I wouldn't think that the goverment would do that either.... But if there was a profit to be had, I wouldn't put it past them.
