cyrano: (Man in Glasses)

That's our job (but we're not mean)

The little rubber nose thingie tore off my glasses this morning, and I can't seem to replace it. I need to get my insurance information so I know where I can go so I can see about getting my frames (hopefully just the frames) dealth with.

This morning I reached into the soap grab bag for a new bar and came out with 'Sleepy Hollow'. It's a little early, as it will be completely gone before All Soul's, but it makes me happy to think it's almost that time of year. (Even if we don't really get that time of year around here.)

For a temporary solution, go buy one of those little glasses repair kits from the drugstore--they usually have replacement stick-on nosepads.

I was a good and industrious citizen and got my fecal matter aggregated--I have an exam at Sears on Friday before work. But I should have one of those kits around....

You should have THREE. I have a tiny screwdriver on my keychain, and small repair kits in my schoolbag, my purse, my bug-out bag, and in the car.

Yes, but I am not good at translating 'should' into 'is'.
I'm getting more industrious, more productive; usually I would expect this 'gathering insurance information because I lost the card and never bothered to replace it, then find out who I can get service from and then make an appointment' to take several days, rather than forty-five minutes.

In other news, I didn't need the card for my glasses, they were ablel to look me up based on name, dob, ssn. Applies to VSP, not sure about other plans.

Yeah, I asked and they said if I gave them the number they'd be able to bring up my data and no card was required. And since my account number is my social security number (something that bugs the living crap out of me) it's not like I need the card to help me remember what my account number is.

And PS: I'm going to get a pair of scissors and trim this little adhesive pad, but it appears to be an excellent stopgap.

Wah! The stick on nose pads fail to stick. They sort of gently hug, at least, and I think I can make it work for a couple of days.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have now taken my emergency *clothing* repair kit, combined it with my emergency *spectacle* repair kit and sewn the stupid pad onto my glasses.
Hah.

I am counting the days until I can start using Sleepy Hollow.
Have to finish my Grasshopper first.
But, ooooh. Sleepy Hollow makes me so high just sniffing it. XD
You have my eternal gratitude for pointing me at that site.

I wish they smelled more.... ): Although I'll probably try a bitty bar of Swashbuckler because (a) it's Pirates! and (b) it's black soap. I may buy a couple of bars of the ones I like better and just leave them in a room, without using them as soap.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And oh PS: It looks like I'll probably be using Absynthe at All Soul's. (: Which still seems appropriate.

Good luck with the specs. In case you need them:
http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php
http://optical4less.com/
(I've used these guys, they're pretty good. I haven't used the top one but it was rec'd to me by one of my brother's friends)

It's very easy to order spectacles on-line. This is a good guide:
http://www.framesdirect.com/how_to_order.asp

I got a better fit from the ones I ordered myself than the ones from Costco. And $175 cheaper!

Hmmm. I'll check into this. Looks like I'd still need an eye exam somewhere local to get a prescription, and.... possibly lenses ground as well. All I see, on a quick look, is frames.

[identity profile] odogoddess.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I get my exam at Costco, but I buy the specs online. Just cheaper. If your specs work fine for you and you don't need an exam, just go to any eyeglass place and ask them what the prescription is. Just tell them you want to order a pair of prescription sunglasses or a spare pair *online*. Most of them will write down what the prescription is for you without grumbling. I just tell them I can get them online for $30 bucks and if they can meet that, great, otherwise, I just need the prescription particulars please. So far, I've had no problem.

oooooo.
(I have never seen an optical place in a CostCo. I need to get out more.)

The place where I got my glasses fixed my old, damaged ones up like new for free.

If your place doesn't do that, check out Family Eye Care Center in Campbell. 408-866-2020.
