It's a thousand pages, give or take a few

I think my latest book has defeated me. It's Tyerman's 900 page epic on the Crusades, thirty years in the writing, and there are just too many names and too much detail. I'm no longer even registering new facts as I read; all the information is either spilling out the sides of my brain or mixing in and creating a sort of crusadey-colored mush in my memory.

*sigh* I hope this is not a foreboding of what school will be like.

I doubt it. They rarely make you read actual intelligent books, or that much.

Maybe you should take it one Crusade at a time? With pauses for fiction in between?

This would be an excellent plan if I owned the book, but it's on loan from the public library and has to be back in two weeks. Seeing as I just finished the first crusade and one hundred fifty pages, I'll have to try to go about it a different way.

There's nothing that says you can't check it out again. Well, maybe the NSA. :-)

Try and get a used copy?

Yeah, I'm trying to decide if I actually want to own it. It's a lot of real estate, but it looks very well done, so I might actually finish it off. I'll probably start poking around for something in a few months. (I believe the book was released in November/December so it's brand new.)
