Burnin' Ring of Fire
Today Mei and I got to Dickens Fair one last time before it closed for the year. She comissioned a Coyote cookie cutter, which means that there may be Coyote Cookies in the future. Yay! There was much browsing, much shopping, and gipsy dancers.
And then we came home and comforted the neurotic kitten before zooming off for an after-midnight showing of Fellowship of the Ring. (Review to follow.)
Miss Friday was supposed to arrive in town today, and I'm hoping to see her before the week is out. Monday is planned to be a 'go to the post office' day. Quite likely it will be a 'go to work and get my bike' day as well.
So it's nearly five a.m. and I've sat through the entire three hours of Fellowship of the Ring. The 'it is very dangerous and there is epic evil afoot' music annoyed me nearly as much as the score for Harry Potter. The Nazgul screeches also got on my nerves pretty damn fast. It is possible the volume was turned up far too high for the cinema I saw it in, which might reduce the magnitude of both those complaints. I have seen John Rhys-Davies act, and I wish I felt like I saw him do it tonight.
And the cool thing is, that about sums up the negative things I have to say about the film. (Not counting stupid people with cel phones who are receiving calls at two in the morning and stupid people who feel compelled to shout advice or obvious information at the screen. I'm certain that, when watching videos at home, they are the very soul of wit and adulation. My only hope is that they continue to watch movies there rather than in public.)
Ring Vision(tm). Very cool. Bilbo's transformation in Rivendell. Very cool. Galadriel's transformation in Rivendell. Very cool. Both way spooky. Boromir's corruption and redemption. So cool. The big final battle with the orcs made me go 'yeah' a few times watching the keen choreography and slick battle moves the heroes have. Way liked the prologue. And there was a *ferret*! Yay.
"I have passed the test. I will diminish, and go into the west. And remain Galadriel."
