Auto update:
It looks like my sunglasses have indeed gone walkabout sometime during the whole mechanic adventure. I'm hoping they're not expensive to replace.
You know those useless license plate frames that serve as advertizing for whatever car lot you bought your car from? When the mechanic removed the splintered half of the 'Thomas Ford' frame while he was replacing my front bumper, he replaced it with one that declares me a Berkeley alumnus. I'm just kind of impressed that he twisted the license plate into a shape that could get framed again.

Are you, in fact, a Berkely alumnus? I think I'd like it better if you weren't. It's far more punk rock to drive around with random advertising.

Then I have preserved my DIY, make-your-own-rules credibility. (: It was apparently just a license frame they had lying around and I guess they figure every car needs two.
