And you can be my cowgirl

One of the important steps in NaNoWriMo, according to the book "No Plot, No Problem," is ensuring that you tell lots of people so there will be the potential for mocking if you decide to quit in week two.

So. I'm calling for a Cowboy Movie Day on Sunday 4 December to celebrate the finishing of my Deadlands-esq western novel. (It won out over the story about the secret agents who are hockey fans.)

I haven't yet nailed down the actual content of the day's viewing, but I suspect Tombstone will be part of it. Suggestions are welcome, as are Western-style potluck contributions and attendance.

Did you know we live like 30-40 minutes from Tombstone?

Research trip.

Just saying. :)

I am, in fact, very much aware of this fact. WindRose used to live in the neighborhood, and would visit the area on occasion.
I may have to change the setting from post-goldrush California... and include a beautiful new character.

One of John Wayne's last is one of his best, The Shootist. It also has Lauren Bacall in it, a bonus.

Hrmmm. I am almost entirely unfamiliar with his body of work.

He plays a former gunslinger, decades after the West was the frontier-- 1903? Something like that-- who's now old and has cancer (as Wayne himself did at the time) and has come to the town more or less to die. Bacall is the boardinghouse landlady; Ron Howard plays her son, sort of worshipful of Wayne's character from all the dime novels he read. What Howard's character learns about how it really was is some of the best stuff in the picture. Good stuff.

Didn't you say you wanted to do the movie in early December, not November? (Also asking since you said "celebrate the finishing of the novel" that should be written *in* November, no?)

*snug*

Yeah, that was me having the dumb. That's supposed to read 4 *DECEMBER*. I'm betting 4 November isn't a Sunday. q:
I think I'm gonna have the dumb all day today, too. Couldn't sleep.

There. The entry is correct. We are at war with Oceania. We have *always* been at war with Oceania.
