Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits please.

Checking in quickly. I'm told I'm developing a fine case of accent. I got my black eyed peas, and while there were no collard greens there *were* turnip greens so I'm hoping that's lucky enough.

Yesterday for lunch, I completely went off diet. But there were fried okra, fried pickle, fried shrimp and jambalaya which I nearly sent back because it wasn't batter dipped.
And then at the New Year's gathering there was further off diet because it was a potluck so there was a glass of soda and sausages in mustard sauce and lots of meat with extra fat and sodium and lots of baked goods and starch.
I'm going to start trying to be good again now.

See y'all soon!

We'll make an honorary Southerner of you yet!

Also? I am so taking you to the good BBQ place next time you visit here.

I love this plan; I'm proud to be a part of it.
I should warn that this is a Texas accent, and I'm not sure if that really counts as Southern. (:

Depends on what part of Texas, I expect. Closer to the border with Louisiana, it'll be more Deep South. Other parts of the state, you get that Southwestern drawl.

Denton, just north of Dallas.
(Home of the Brave Combo, coincidentally.)

*snicker*

SRSLY! I ordered vegetables for lunch and they weren't even fried! And the chicken was baked and not batter dipped.

"Good" is a relative term.

Don't you know that holidays don't count when you're on a diet? It's, like, a law of physics or something. Calories consumed in delicious holiday meals don't count for weight-watching purposes.

And a happy new year to you too. =)

I ate some black eyed peas for you, since I imagine they don't have good luck in Alaska. (:

Yeah, some folk were asking Ted Stevens and Don Young to get some federal budget earmarks so we could build the infrastructure to import it, but it looks like they're trying to keep a lower profile lately. Ah, well. Guess we'll have to manage on our own.

Do black-eyed peas taste as much like dirt as I've heard?

I imagine it depends a lot on how you prepare them. This year's batch was made up in a broth that made them taste like they'd been prepared borrachio-style. (Which I personally find quite tasty.)
They're beans, much like any other. (:
