I finally figured it out--the reason I kept saying 'no' when people called Cloverfield a Godzilla movie. It's not Godzilla, it's Rosencrantz and Godzilla.

I just added the movie to my netflix list because it's been too long since I've seen it! I really should own it... must look into that.
