Honestly? It turned out better than I expected. I was a contractor for two months, and after paying $50 for TurboTax I'll have about $11 left over from that $600. I think I'm gonna go out and stimulate the economy with it.
Sorry to hear. I ended up shelling out about $330 to the gummint this year, which wasn't unexpected (Alaska PFD and all that). But my stim check is likely going straight to the credit card people, anyway. On the plus side, assuming nothing else comes up, I may well be out of debt afterwards. So maybe I'll buy you a drink. ;)
Anyway, you can always feel glad you're not in my dentist's position. Last time I saw him he was, in his very laid-back Keillor-esque way, talking about taxes: "Yeah, I'm in no hurry to file my return...what with the business and my wife's retirement, I owe roughly $24,000...or about enough for one bolt on a tank for Iraq..."
Yay for getting out of debt! Between student loans and credit cards, I may just pass on my debts to my brother's and sister's children at this rate. And I like your dentist, I think.
Bleh, I hear you. Although if it's any consolation, I don't think debt actually can be legally inherited (which doesn't stop any number of shady debt-collection agencies from badgering family members of the deceased for cash).
My dentist is awesome - really good at his work, very patient (doesn't rush things like waiting for the Novocaine to kick in), and with a great sense of humor. Plus he's pretty unabashed about discussing politics, while simultaneously not getting aggressive about it - an unusual thing in this day and age.
