Run for the hills

I have now met the Very Famous Ian. Windrose took me to her... place where trainers train you, like a gym but more supervised. And I met his business associate, Jessica, who gave me a tour of the facilities and then told me I could go play. Which was nice, because that was pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. I managed to wrangle a week's 'guest membership' and admired the plans they have for the space. (They're putting in a MMA room, and a cafe with smoothies and healthy whatnots that should be opening on Monday.) (They also have, already in place, like eight individual shower rooms that look like somebody's bathroom at home. They have the sink with the cabinet and everything.)
I got a fifteen minute run and the promise that I could just wander in any time they were open until next Friday. I also saw half an episode of That '70s Show, which didn't seem as awful as I'd expected. The place looks like it's got a lot of potential, and I hope he does well with it.

As far as Friday question goes....
What do you like to do to make yourself feel better, or to reward yourself?
(And then you should go do it.)

Lately I have a very specific, slightly odd thing. My dad, when I went down for my mom's funeral, gave me a whole bag of brand new white athletic socks that my mom had purchased but never had a chance to wear. When I get home from an especially hard day, I switch into jeans, a t-shirt and "mom socks." Nothing makes me feel quite so good as "mom socks." I'm wearing a pair at work today (Friday casual... yay!)

I like to go to Amsterdam and smoke hash. (This is a recent discovery. I discovered it makes me feel much, much better and rewarded!)

To make myself feel better, I usually try to go out and take pictures. There's something about the puzzle of finding good shots on gray days when the light is as lively as Lenin that's very fun. When it's really, truly to horrible to go outside and do that, I snuggle my huge fluffy cat. Because he's awesome and he smells like a cat.

As far as a reward, I try to find something ridiculously rare, useful, interesting and pocketable to buy. Like an Invar pocketwatch from the 19th century, or a handmade indestructible LED flashlight. Being obsessively interested in virtually everything, having something physical to play with is always just a pile of fun.

I know it's not a hugely interesting answer, but I like to go find a treadmill to run on. I know, I know, treadmills aren't for "real" runners, but something about having the concrete data in front of me telling me that I've run this far in this much time at this speed feels much more rewarding than just kind of stumbling around outside until I feel tired. Plus it gives me something to shoot for. And for whatever reason, it helps me feel better when I'm upset or stressed or angry.

Snuggling my (smaller, less fluffy) cat is sometimes helpful, too. Although unlike the above-mentioned huge fluffy cat, he will snuggle on his terms and his terms only...
