Top of the Pops

Mondays are bad enough when they don't start with despair-filled dreams of impotence and uselessness. So countering with an extra peppy Top of the Pops.

Brimful of Asha (Fatboy Slim remix)--Cornershop
Der Kommissar--Falco
Agnus Dei--Mozart's Requiem by von Karajan
Rock Me Amadeus--Falco
Midnight Blue--Lou Gramm
Movement III:Courante--Bach's Cello Suite #2 by Yoyo Ma
Stand Down Margaret--English Beat
Rockit--Herbie Hancock
Janie is a Nazi--Sloppy Seconds

4/10, I feel uncultured today.

*blinks* Okay, I'm going to guess you've heard of Mozart and Bach. And how can anybody not have heard of Falco? So... I'm going to guess Herbie Hancock for the fourth.
Wait. Falco is two of them so that's four right there.

I didn't notice Falco twice.. I was barely awake this morning. Then 5/10, I've heard of Cornershop. That's not so bad!

Would I like Lou Gramm?

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Lou Gramm was the lead singer for Foreigner back when they were big in the eighties. If you like Foreigner, it's a safe bet you'll like Lou Gramm. (:

Am I terribly uncultured to breeze in, note the classical stuff, but choose instead to go eeeee! at Brimful of Asha? That remix makes me deliriously happy.

If you are, dear, then I am as well. I violated the 'random first ten' rule of TotP by deliberately hunting that track down to improve my mood this morning.
I'm dancing behind movie screens.

From the morning past the evening til the end of the light...

Hee, I have very fond memories of it too. Partly because this band nobody had ever heard of sold more copies than Celine Dion, way back then. And that mattered! (To me)

If you'll check above, EliseAmelie has heard of the band nobody had ever heard of, even though she's never heard of Herbie Hancock or English Beat. (:
This may also warm your heart.

[identity profile] kezbat.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That does make me fuzzyhearted indeed. :)

It is very seldom that I recognize any of the artists listed. Truthfully it was a few weeks before I realized the artists names came 2nd and not 1st in the listing. This week however I have heard of 7 of 10 so I am quite impressed with myself. Although, the only reason I originally knew of Herbie Hancock was due to a quote in "Tommy Boy" so maybe I should only score half a point. He did win a grammy this year though, again only known because of my love of "Tommy Boy".

It doesn't matter where you find the Herbie. What matters is that you find him. (:
I'm guessing... Mozart Bach and Falco. Herbie Hancock. Cornershop.
...Uh. I just discovered that this week there are only nine tracks, and eight different artists. q:
Wow. That's what I get for waking up on Monday morning.

Actually, I am familar with Fat Boy Slim but not Cornershop. My known artists were, Mozart, Falco, Bach, Lou Gramm, English Beat, and of course the Jazz stylings of Herbie Hancock.

I want credit for Yoyo Ma too. I forgot about him. So at the expense of minimizing myself and putting my most petty and self centered nature out in front; I know Yoyo Ma too, I only wish he picked the upright instead of bowing it.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-04-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You can have credit for YoYo Ma, but if you don't know von Karajan then you're losing a point--choose your battles carefully, grasshopper.
