Reason #552417 that I love living in the Digital Age

From Tattermuffin's LJ:
The British Library is in the midst of scanning in online copies of rare/unique/great books so that they can not only be accessed by the general public across the world but also accessed in their entirety.

We're doing that, too. It's the Next Big Thing in libraries.
Although our collection isn't as cool as the British Library's. :)

Thank you for pointing that out. My husband will totally love it, on the technological, religious and historical fronts. And me too, of course. :)

I am thrilled increased access that these materials will get, but at the same time I am a little afraid that we will not be so focused on preserving past (and current) written works in physical form once they are scanned. Digital media do not have anywhere near the lifespan of physical media.
