As expected, judges in Iowa are trying to pretend that they're just as ignorant as pharmacists and are claiming that it's unconstitutional to force them to perform same-sex marriages.

Much like my Muslim friends who work at Safeway and send customers who try to buy ham to another checker. Or my friends in advertising who just tell their bosses that they won't be working with clients they consider unsavory and morally repugnant. Or Republicans in the House who refuse to acknowledge any other parties based on their love for America and hatred for treason.

If his honor Francis Honrath needs to get out of law, I would be glad to give him a crash course in email deliverability and then take his job in Iowa. I would magistrate the hell out of those folks.

And if anybody needs me, I'll be in the AngryDome.

If you were a magistrate, I would totally move to your jurisdiction. I'd like to have sensible judges around.

Maybe it's state-by-state, but I didn't think judges/magistrates/justice-of-the-peaces were REQUIRED to perform marriages, merely able to. It seems like there would be a fairly easy way for Honrath to get out of performing same-sex marriages by just not performing ANY marriages.

That is, in fact, the current tactic. I think Bakersfield decided that there would be no more marriages during that brief shining moment when California was equal. But the Alliance Defence Fund is moving toward selective non-marriaging.

I think I'll join you in that angry dome. Where the fuck do these idiots get this idea that someone is going to OMG *force* them to perform gay marriages???? No one is holding a gun to their head. They need to STFU and have a Coke and a smile. Yeesh
