*sigh*

Recently I had my interest in doing community radio revived, and managed to track down a local station which would do most of the things I want.
However.
They want me to do a five week training course first. And they don't know when they'll have their next one--maybe next fall sometime.

It is a ways off, but it's still a starting point.

Have you considered college radio? My husband may still have contacts at KFJC.

I have definitely considered it. A couple of years back, I found the Foothill station. But many of the college stations want you to be enrolled as a student, and KFJC (according to the webpage) was one of those. The Stanford station (the one who just mailed me) does not have that restriction.

What about internet "radio"? And if you already have some experience, why would you need a 5 week course?

I had looked into internet radio, but the fees demanded by copyright holders were exorbitant, so I never looked into buying the software to broadcast.

I have some experience, but I have no proof of it, and it was some twenty years past, so they wanted me to take the classes. I can see their point of view on the matter.

I suppose there might have been a couple of technological advances in 20 years. I don't suppose the appropriate training is available elsewhere?

I could probably sit in on a few DJ shifts, something like that. But I think in this case it's more that, if I've taken the class, they feel comfortable that I know what they want me to. They've got a process and it works for them even if it doesn't suit me particularly.

I've heard good things about this service for Internet radio. Supposedly the fees are less exorbitant.

Hrmm. I am on the website now, investigating. And if I don't tell anybody about it, fees seem far lower. (:
