cyrano: (Smoke Me a Kipper)

(no subject)

Four episodes into Children of Earth.

I'd heard I would love the first half and hate the last half. So far, gearing up for the last episode, I've been pretty pleased.

The alien is interesting, the presentation has been good, I'm liking actual moral dilemna. The idea that the Doctor or whoever can't sweep in with a Deus Ex Machina and make it all better. (I mean, I know there'll be one later, but still.) I got furious about the discussion on how to select the useless, less desirable children for Soylent Greenification, which I think is a good sign. The one bit that twigged me so far was Jack and the "I surrender I promise not to fight have all the kids you want but don't take him" moment. (I could do with less of the ethereal wordless Enya soundtrack, but we've had that since the reboot.) I really *liked* the named character collateral damage, as opposed to the end of last season's collateral damage.

Seventy-five minutes to go. Fingers crossed.

Wow. No DeM. An actual price paid. (Of course Jack has to make sure it's All About Him. He's like Buffy.) The 'children in danger' bit was played with a ham hand, but I got all choked up when Andy finally jumped in to fight the Man. All in all, the goofy science did not make my head explode, and I generally quite liked it.

I really enjoyed it. The solid and thorough what-if moral dilemma pretty much overshadowed any of its warts.

Dude! Spoilers!

(Thankfully I have seen it all, but had you posted this a week and a half ago, I'd be a sadface kitty)

This is true. I hadn't really thought about it, and had sort of assumed that six months buffer would do.

I counter with "I tend to only watch series' via Netflix and so have to work my way through the queue to get through them".

To me, 6 months isn't long at all.

Example: First season of Lost. Came out on DVD just after second season to air. Heroes, same deal. So I avoided spoilers for each for a year before watching them.

Yeah, I may be an edge case (and I'm totally willing to admit I am) however I know of at least one person that reads your LJ who hasn't seen all of Children of Earth yet. (She did see the first three eps at my place, but not the latter two.)

Spoilers aside:

After watching it, I can't decide if I love Russel T. Davies or hate him. CoE was, I thought, pretty amazing stuff.

Which is why I avoided reading this post until now.
