More stuff clearing

I'm fairly certain there are organizations that take laptops and cel phones that may not be bleeding edge thousand dollar tech but that somebody else may be able to make use of.
Does anybody know of such an animal?

Check with a local women's shelter. They're usually the ones I see looking for such things.

the thing is, the programs collecting for shelters will generally take the phones, recycle them, and then use the cash (some of it at least) to fund the shelter, some to fund the recycling program, so it's not really like they're putting the phones in the hands of battered women, unfortunately. :(

Really? A friend of mine who used to volunteer with womens' shelters said that they collected phones to give to the women to make emergency calls with - by law, any cell phone has to be able to connect to 911, whether it's activated or has minutes or a contract or not. But then, if they recycle them and use the cash, it's not like that's a bad cause either.

This is a good general resource of resources for just what you are trying to accomplish.
