LOL used to mean "laughing out loud", but now it means "I have nothing to say".

People who use it to punctuate stuff, as in "I went out today lol but I didn't get anything, lol - what a waste of time lol! lol!" MAKE ME WANT TO PUNCH THINGS.

Oh great, the virtual world has found it's "like."
Personally, I'll stick with "um" and "uh" as they came first and are honest in their meanings.
