According to Sigourney Weaver, Avatar is the movie James Cameron has wanted to make since he was fourteen. So this would make it his "Fifth Element".


I'm not yet certain if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

EDIT: She also says the most moving thing is the story and the romance, and the effects are all sublimated to that. I therefore assume she was also lying about the 'fourteen' thing.

"Being able to walk around an alien planet in a spacesuit made of flesh" is pretty fourteen. Adding in kitty-people sex came later, and wrapping it in romance was probably a marketing decision.

Still well worth watching.

I'll agree with the meat-spacesuit motif being very teenage boy, but I imagine that there was more pornography and less romance in the 14-year-old Cameron version. 'Cause sex with hot alien babes is also very teenage boy.
