Quick links for people who like bad news

You're probably not going to Heaven.

Remember my plans to get my teaching credentials? Hell, remember our plans to educate our children?

Here, have the Poohsticks icon.

While I remain firmly on the side of "you should teach a community education course or something just to find out if you even like teaching", I would like to point out that the economy and our spending is cyclical. It will take some time, but as things improve, those cuts will be reversed. At that point, there will likely be a shortage of teachers, between attrition and a lack of new people seeking degrees in education.

Just because they are making cuts right this second is not a reason to scrap plans to get your teaching credentials-- provided that you're sure you want to teach, and you're willing to do something else for a while until things pick back up.

Yeah, I'm not feeling dissuaded from my path. It's not like there's a sudden explosion of jobs elsewhere that's causing the collapse in the teaching market.

In 12-Step Recovery they say; "Religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there."

And in Eastern Spiritual Thought they say; "Each and every day we decide weather we want to live in hell or live in heaven."

As a Taoist who firmly believes in reincarnation, I just smile when I hear religious types talk about their fairy-tale god, and their equally childish talk about heaven and hell.

I like that second one, although my personal version is slightly less poetic: "Maybe there's an afterlife, reincarnation, what have you, maybe not, who cares? We're here now, and let's work on making it the best time we can. There'll be plenty of time to moon over whether there's a heaven after we're dead."

I like that as well!
