Lenny Bruce and Lester Banks

Just found REM doing 'Wall of Death' from the Beat the Retreat Thompson tribute album on Rhapsody. Another ninety-nine cents, another track on the REMade album. (Unfortunately they don't have the whole album. May have to go to Amazon.)

Hey! Now that you're back...

I have at least one CD you need to listen to, by an artist named Michael Buble'. I can't tell if all his songs are covers, but I recognized at least some of them as being so.

His cover of the Beatles song (of course, I can't remember which one now) was mildly frightening. :)

Yay mildly frightening!

Oh, wait, are you looking for people covering REM, or REM covering other people? If it is the latter, there's also "First We Take Manhattan"; but I'd thought it was the former.

I have "Beat the Retreat", as it happens (got it used, which is good, as I recall not loving it--I haven't even MP3d it yet).

I am looking for people covering REM, REM covering other people (King of the Road from Dead Letter Office, also No Doubt doing End of the World) and I'm including the William S. Burroughs 'Star Me Kitten' as well. (: Variations on a theme is the theme. If they had an Unplugged album, I might pull a track off that.

I am pretty sure I have _Beat The Retreat_ because you gave it to me. Do you need to borrow it back? :-)

ooo. That might be handy. (: Lance seems unimpressed generally, what do you think of it?

Well, decide for yourself:

(the upload is proceeding; there will be 16 files in there when it's all done. Let me know when I can wipe it; it's a friend's system.)

All clear. (:

Bangs, by the way. Seminal 1970s rock critic Lester Bangs, one of the several people to whom the coining of the term "punk rock" can be attributed. Also a character in the film Almost Famous.

D'oh! That's right.
