Just found REM doing 'Wall of Death' from the Beat the Retreat Thompson tribute album on Rhapsody. Another ninety-nine cents, another track on the REMade album. (Unfortunately they don't have the whole album. May have to go to Amazon.)

Bangs, by the way. Seminal 1970s rock critic Lester Bangs, one of the several people to whom the coining of the term "punk rock" can be attributed. Also a character in the film Almost Famous.
