Okay, I have a top hat, and I have a cigar. If I were a smart person I would have gotten some make up while I was at Debbi Lynn's to do the skull face.
I suspect I'm going to have to shave to do this--I can't immediately picture Baron Samedi with a beard.

Don't worry, I'll get the make up next week. (I'm pretty sure the stuff I have, being years old, is no longer good.)

Isn't it a tad early for Halloween?

In the immortal words of Alain Jourgensen, Every Day is Hallowe'en. (:

It could work with a beard...

What's the occasion?

Masquerade party with 'New Orleans' as the theme.

Doesn't he usually wear wire-rimmed glasses, too?

(Or should that be "doesn't He"? I don't know what level of deity requires capitalization of personal pronouns.)

to be fair, he's probably quite chilled-out about it, either way...

The original Man With No Tan...

In the pictures I've seen, the only time I see him wearing spectacles or sunglasses it seems it's because the person portraying him wears them. (Wearing glasses would be nice for seeing purposes, but glasses and make up are a disastrous mess.)

Well, Barbara Hambly in her Benjamin January books described the Baron as having them, or being thought by the slave community in the 1830s to have them, and she's usually pretty meticulous about research. Though she admits that so much isn't known about early voodoo. I wonder what her sources were.

I am perfectly open to this suggestion. (: Especially since odds are good I'm going to have to wear my glasses anyway.

I guess you could always wander by her place at [livejournal.com profile] barbara_hambly and ask.

I'd imagine that as bad as glasses and makeup might be, contact lenses and makeup aren't much better. Two great tastes that don't go great together.

I also hates me some contact lenses.
I have issues with sticking things into my eye.
