cyrano: (Address Me)

Is you is or is you ain't my baby?

It's Friday. And since some of you are too shy to come out without encouragement, I'm inviting people to admire my icons and ask me about them. Go on, it's okay. There are no stupid questions. Only questions that get you mercilessly mocked for all time.

Who is the guy your "Address me" icon? I always think it's Hugh Laurie, but when I look closer, it looks like it's not.

Gary Oldman, in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead". (Ha! I know that one!)

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I must respectfully disagree with Miss Rose. Although it is "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" (A masterful work by Tom Stoppoard), the actor in question is Tim Roth. His partner, the loyal Guildenstern, is Gary Oldman.
The text is a direct quote from the script.

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! You're right. But then, considering that part of the joke is that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can't even tell *themselves* apart, I don't think I'm going to feel too bad. ;)

[identity profile] darth-snarky.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This is where I get embarrassed--I've seen a production of the play, but I've never actually gotten around to seeing the movie (but it has been on me "to-see" list for ages now).

[identity profile] darth-snarky.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
*MY to-see list, apparently my keyboard thinks it's still Pirate Day.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
There is no need for embarrassment. There are hundreds of films I haven't seen yet, that I actually want to see. And the number grows every week, I expect. (:
I do highly recommend it, though.

Tell me about the kipper icon: who's the pic, what's the quote, what sort of things do you use it for?

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The quote is from "Red Dwarf", in an episode where Rimmer (the utter failure at everything who constantly rationalized his failure to himself) met an alternate-universe version of himself who was a cross between Tom Cruise in "Top Gun" and Lord Flashheart from "BlackAdder". The cool-Rimmer's catchphrase before he went off to do Daring Deeds was "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast."

I think the picture is John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, a similarly dashing figure. But I might be wrong.

...wait. Why am I answering all of these?

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you're at work and full of excess energy? (:

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
In my fingers, anyway. Must be the Bawls.

(That one's Hugh Laurie, and the quote is from "House". I'm on a roll!)

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Very nice! An obscure one there!

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I would've figured "House" would be slightly less obscure than "Red Dwarf"...

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but the House reference is one passing line from an episode. Ace Rimmer is a fan favorite who shows up in... I think two or three episodes as a prominent supporting character.

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And I don't know that one, sorry.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to be sorry. (:
It's cult eighties television.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Big Time Television! Twenty four hours a day, day after day, makin' tomorrow seem like yesterday!

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And here I may agree with everything Miss Rose has so well said. I tend to use it for any posts about the Torchwood game (as Jack Harkness is the main character in the television show), or whenever I'm feeling particularly dashing, competent and sexy.
So mostly posts about Torchwood.

I'll admit, I'm curious about your "Stylin" icon. Because it always makes me go "WTF?"

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That icon is a picture of me, wearing my airport uniform shirt and the breathing hose for the breathing apparatus I'm supposed to wear when I sleep.
The text is hardcore irony--I took the photo for somebody who asked what I was talking about when I mentioned my new medical hardware, and I felt so completely uncomfortable and not cool that I decided the only thing to do was fight back by pretending that I was completely hip.

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh! That makes sense. I did catch the irony, which actually works rather well since your hair's all nicely combed back. Makes it look like you're rocking a new trend. :)

I just heard the Wiyos sing the song you are quoting!

Why don't you know how the Wiyos are????

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ou sont les Wiyos d'antan?

eh?

I have some videos of them on my massive Winfield post a few days ago, if you are interested.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure! I'll go have a look.
