My appetite's Half English

It appears that mostly what I want to do while I'm in California is eat and see people.

Aquarium (Probably Friday)
The ocean
The mountains
Golden Gate? Exploratorium?
Baji's (Probably Saturday breakfast)
Thai City and/or Amarin
Su's or the place on Castro for Mongolian
Clark's
La Fondue
Jamba
Sushi of some sort
Indian?

I prefer Su's, but that's because I think it's much better than the place on Castro. The last time I was at the place on Castro they had no vinegar. None at all.

Mongolian Barbecue without vinegar is like chicken soup with no crackers.

Granted it was a couple years ago.

Was this also before they cleaned up? I remember the first time I went in there, it was really scary and the cook was coughing and I walked right out. But recently they'd had a make over and we'd started going there for lunch.

Definitely before they cleaned up. Last time I went there it vaguely resembled a factory break room with no air conditioning in August. It might work in another type of restaurant, but no air conditioning in a room with a giant table sized hot platform grill, leads to sweaty customers.

I might have forgiven them if the food had been good, but no vinegar = bland, boring Mongolian Barbecue.

Indian?

If you're thinking to eat at the restaurant formerly known as Godavari (previously known as Sue's Indian, before that Sue's Kitchen) the quality has gone downhill since you left. However, the Passage to India Buffet is pretty damn good, as is Amber India. Or, you could try Chaat Paradise on El Camino and Grant (near Nijiya) for a lunch of tasty little snacklike objects.

I like Amber, but it's a little spendy. Of course, it's kind of a special occasion. (:

Like La Fondue is all that cheap either.

I'm not surprised about the food and people bit. Food done properly is a social thing.

Yeah, Amanda and I were pretty much having that exact discussion last night. (:

It sounds like a fun trip! I have been hoping to snag you on IM sometime to make plans. I'd be happy to join you for a couple of these.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
In that case, we'd both be happy. (:
We should IM or email or something, and make certain we can iron out transportation. I'm supposed to be doing a lot of homework today, and so I'll try to make certain I'm spending at least several hours on IM and near the computer.

Erik and I hope to see you while you're here.

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I would like that. Are you two generally free on the weekend?

[identity profile] phillipalden.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
We are free for part of most weekends. Are you coming in for Raven and Liz's wedding?

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, no. Back when I planned the wedding and Ashland, a week between the two was a *good* thing because it gave me time to recover. Not so much when I have to miss school and work.

[identity profile] scarywhitegirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Just don't get confused and see and eat people. That would be no good. :)

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the people. Some seem to enjoy it...

[identity profile] ebonlock.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Baji's! You will notify interested parties regarding times and such so's we can meet up with you, yes? :D

[identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
That is the plan, in order to maximise the chances of seeing people.
That and finding somebody to host of an evening for wandering in and being social without the onus of buying food.
