Day Eight
in the 21 day barrage of prayer called Operation Supreme Court Freedom.
Number of liberal Justices (out of six) The Lord has moved his heavy hand upon to call them to retire:

Come on, people. If you want to hire Jesus to be your paid thug, then he does expect to get *paid*. If you want him to lean on Ruth Bader Ginsberg and 'convince' her that she's not feeling well enough to keep up the lifestyle of a Supreme Court Justice, you'll have to pony up. And Jesus doesn't take American Express.
Pray harder!

Day 116 of Bring Freedom and Democracy to Iraq:
According to the New York Times: in an effort to de-Baathify and free the Iraqi people, the Iraqi National Congress has made efforts to reassemble the Mukhabarat, the Iraqi (and quite Baathist) Secret Police to spy on Iran and report back to the Pentagon.

Dear Ol' Pat also seems to have taken leave of his senses in Supreme Court timing. While they *can* retire at any point, they usually do so at the end of the term, giving a heafty amount of lead time for a successor to be chosen and approved. The last term ended about a month ago.
Re Iraq: But we kinda, sorta, maybe killed the two younger Husseins. Doesn't that count for anything? [FWIW I'm expecting a retraction of this claim any minute. Both sons were together in the same place? You gotta be kidding!

Read the above with a flair of whimsical cynicism.

I agree that this is a disturbing piece of news if it really reported what you seem to imply above.
What the article says is:
"There's been a lot of discussion, but I haven't seen anything that has developed into concrete thinking," one official said. Asked whether the Defense Department was working through the Iraqi National Congress to recruit former Iraqi intelligence officers, the official declined to comment.
It further says, near the end, contrary to what you write that "it was unclear to whom a new Iraqi intelligence service would report"
So, it seems plausible to me that there may indeed be elements of the former intelligence service focused on Iran and Syria which are coallescing, but it does not seem to me, as you imply that the entire Baathist security apparatus is regrouping with U.S. sanction.
