Steam: This is gonna be so cool! You can play it anywhere! With all your saves and stuff!
Me: ...Really? That sounds cool, all right.
Steam: Do it! Do eeeeeeeeet!
Me: ...Okay! Let's rumble!
Steam: It'll take about 18 hours to finish downloading and installing.
Me: ....
Me: I thought... you know, play instantly, magic of The Cloud and shit.
Steam: Seventeen hours and fifty-five minutes.
Me: But... Portal!
Steam: It's still quicker than ordering from Amazon.
Me: Got a point.

I have been using steam for a year or so and I have been very happy with it. Low priced games and the ability to play them anywhere is a good enough reason to deal with the slow download times.

For me, it's as much about the not needing a CD/DVD in the drive as much as it is about instant (ok, sorta-instant) gratification.

What's your ID on steam? Mine's pretty obvious. :)

I think mine is too--it's probably under cyranocyrano. (:

So the 'play anywhere' thing--I'm guessing if you have a day's notice, you have them log into your account and download the game before you arrive? (And if so, can you still use your Steam account at home?)

I'll send you mine when I get home. :)

'Play anywhere, with your saves'? Really? All my DA2 save files are on my local computer, how do you get your saves on the cloud? From anywhere? Especially when it's installing the software on your local computer.

Oh, right, I knew there was something I was supposed to tell (both) of you. I installed Steam (but haven't yet played anything on it), um... *goes to look it up* looks like I'm ceredwin.

Yay! You too!

Is this the part where I tell you both that because I want a silly hat and a pony that I'm going to send you invitations to the trial of Rift and then figure out how to buy it for you (even if you never play it)?

I have no idea what that even means, yet I am strangely at peace with it.

I am investigating that, as best I can. I have no idea how, as my further comments display admirably. (:
