Many of these things, yes.
I will say, I was surprised to see how many people are listing Dark Knight Rises as one of the best superhero movies ever. Maybe I missed something, because even not comparing it to the other Nolan Batmovies, it really didn't do much for me.
But thank you to Kit Kindred for pointing out the unicorn to me.

You know, I didn't like the other two Nolan movies, and maybe that's *because* they relied on realism so much. The things I enjoyed about the third one seem to have something to do with not depending so much on having everything be dark and realistic, like the dark realistic depths of the soul, or whatever.

Comic books are not really very realistic. They have huge plot holes and obvious plot devices and sometimes a happy ending is required.

(Most) Comic books aren't realistic, but they can still have internal consistency. If Superman can use his heat vision to excite the molecules in a door lock to open it in Smallville issue 17, I don't want to see him thwarted by a door lock in issue 18 unless he says "Dang, this lock is made from unobtanium, so I can't use my heat vision!"
Maybe that's why most of the time I'm not a big fan of comic book movies. Not a fan of plot holes.

I'm missing a reference. Where/what was the unicorn?

Just there. See his little horn in the upper right? And his prancy little hooves?
What is seen cannot be unseen.

I suppose that'd explain why she never responded to me.

That's what you can tell yourself, anyway.
