Angels: "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls might have been rather overplayed in the 90s, but for good reason - it's a beautiful song. I'm not sure if the lyrics specifically reference angels, but they wrote it for the movie City of Angels, which definitely fits your theme (even if the screenplay is incredibly frustrating).
Other bands: The New Radicals' "You Only Get What You Give" has a couple of lines name-checking Beck, Hanson, Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson. Not necessarily a great song, but it's got a catchy rhythm.
