What a swell party this is

cyranoI have come to see that the SFO-Millbrae leg of the new BART system is disproportionately overpriced, and parking at Millbrae is free, so the next time I decide to go into the City from work, I'm driving that two-mile three-dollar gap first. I have also decided that if I lived in San Francisco and had to deal with the crowds downtown on a regular basis I'd probably have to start punching people. Too many of them, most of them who don't appear to know where they're going, and Sturgeon's Law applies.
De-Lovely (MGM) : Four wags out of Five
I knew a lot of the story going in, and I'm not sure whether that made me enjoy the movie more or less. I loved the 'meta' of it, the framing device and the presentation. I thought Kline and Judd were both at the top of their game. Jonathan Pryce made me very pleased as Gabe. And the aging make up was fantastic. I cried like Nancy Kerrigan at So In Love, and I laughed a lot.
It's arty. It's a love story. It's kind of a musical. And, for those of you who are late to celebrate Gay Pride, it's queer cinema. It also strongly poked my desire to get my hands on the Tank Girl soundtrack. So if you want some subversive summer cinema instead of contemplating the travesty that Will Smith has made of I Robot (Three Laws Safe, my ass.) then make some time for one of the greatest pop composers of the 20th century.
