cyrano: (sleepy)
Subject line for the housemate, in case she got it out of her head.

So Portland update: I followed the directions on the 'internal positions' posting, which said send email to person A. The next day person A responded and said 'Okay now apply for the position online and send your resume and letter of intent to person B.' Once I found out how to apply online, and took a good guess at the URL I have my current resume under, I did that. Later that afternoon person B responded and said 'Okay now fill out a Transfer Request Form online and get approval from your station manager.' (My great grandboss.) The online process was similar enough that it only took me about fifteen minutes to find the form. And read the draconian restrictions on me based on some vague promises from the management. If I signed this form I was obligated to accept any position offered at the other station, and refusal would mean that at the next shift bid at my station, I would be given a line only after all other employees had selected, if there were any left to be filled.
I called my great grandboss and expressed my concerns. She told me not to worry. So I said ho good, because I *was* worried. And she said the only time they'd actually hold me to that agreement was if they offered me a position at the other station.
And so, after finding a new hoop to jump through after every one I'd cleared on this end, and facing what looked like a very ominous contractual obligation while still not having a lot of information on my side, I withdrew my name for consideration for the position.
I confess that I had some ominous superstitious bad feelings when, the night I applied for the position, I lit that candle for Legba and put it out on the back porch so it would be lit at midnight (a very potent time especially for the Man of the Crossroads) and the next morning I found out it had blown out, probably long before midnight.

But today I put in for my vacation time to Tampa, and soon I'm putting in for time off to go to Portland and attend OryCon.
