Hurrah for our Allies
Dec. 17th, 2007 02:22 pmKing Abdullah pardons raped woman. This mean that she will not receive the 200 lashes that she probably richly deserves for being alone with a man and tempting him to assault her.
Although the King is "convinced and sure that the verdicts were fair" he has taken the kindly approach that any time a criminal might have "psychological effects", he "always looks into alleviating the suffering of the citizens".
He doesn't think she's not an evil temptress, he just doesn't want the people to suffer unduly.
Also note, the man she was alone with is not the rapist. While they were alone together, they were attacked by a group of other men.
Initially, her penance was only 90 lashes, but since she appealed they decided to more than double it just to show what happens when you get uppity and talk back.
President Bush, in a show of humanitarianism, expressed dismay over the initial sentence, but apparently he's not a close associate of the King and never found the time to make "his views known directly". (He's very shy, our George.)
Jesus Fuck.

Dec. 17th, 2007 05:35 pmIf you're considering writing in Stephen Colbert for either the Democratic or Republican primaries (Or, hell, Libertarian, Natural Law, American Independent, Green or any other primary), whether it's because you support his no nonsense policies on immigration (flaming moat filled with fire retardant crocodiles!) or because you want to send a message to TPTB that you'd prefer to vote for a television character than any of the candidates that are being offered, feel free to repost this.
