Mar. 22nd, 2008 01:07 pmToday I have been fascinated by the idea of the Lamed Vav. (Or the Tzadikim, or the Nistarim.) Mostly, they make me want to Role Play, in that Spirit of the Century/Torchwood retro campaign.
The basic idea of the Tzadikim is that, at any time, there are Thirty Six good people (Lamed is thirty in Hebrew, Vav is six) in the world, and their responsibility is to be good people, to Do the Right Thing. The Lord aids them in their efforts, but if any of them fail then the world comes to an end.
The tricky thing is, none of them know that they're Tzadikim. And being one of the thirty-six today doesn't mean you'll be one tomorrow. If you discover somehow that you *are* one of the thirty-six, in that moment of knowledge you are replaced by another. If somebody claims to be one of the thirty-six, then they most definitely are not.
