cyrano: (I want to go home)
Ray was a marine, stationed offworld dealing with some alien menace. I met him during one of the quieter phases of the engagement--lots of just keeping an eye on each other--when I'd been assigned to write a story about the current situation. I'm not entirely certain whether it was a flag waving puff piece, a hard hitting gritty pulitzer grab, or an expose of imperial corruption and opression.
What I do know is that Ray was killed in some sort of geothermal upwelling; a rock that was plugging a vent got shot into the air and crushed him. It was another senseless loss of human life, but an unusual one for the front.

And then, when I was a superhero with ice-themed powers, I found out Ray had a sister. She was a magic-using villain who sold tie-dye and hand-crafted thingummies out of her VW microminibus, until she started squatting and operating out of the basement of a store front I owned and hadn't started using. When I discovered her, I found out she was also deaf. I signed that she should go get her bus, and I'd help her pack all her crap up. While she was gone, I changed my mind and set up shop for her upstairs, as a surprise. Unfortunately, in the way of villains, she came back with the magic bus and rammed the store and attacked me and all my altruistic helpers. Our attempts to assist a patriot veteran's down on her luck sister turned into a fatal battle for her. It was very sad.

Later, when I was in gold-rush Juneau, one of the dance halls was doing a benefit for Ray's parents, who... something, I don't remember. All I know is that Ray is seriously starting to cut into the 'naked women' portions of my dreams, and he'd better knock it off, war hero or no. He wasn't even a major character in the first dream. Supporting characters do not get "Save Ferris" style running themes.

My friend Tahnan described Moffat's style as 'more imagery than sense'.
And my mother told me "If you can't say something nice..."
I have seen the much cried for return of the time-murdering angels, and so I say "Yay, Angel Bob!" And.... hrm. No, that's it. Yay Angel Bob.
