Dis Manibus
Jul. 1st, 2010 11:46 pmToday was John's birthday, and he took us to the Detroit Institute of Arts (which is pretty impressive). There was a sculpture/assembly by an artist named Bester called "Speelman" which was a solider constructed out of scrap metal. I wanted to find a picture of it to show you, but no luck. Then we drove around downtown and admired buildings (kind of like downtown Portland) and they showed me some of the scary parts before we fled.
John surprised me by choosing Ethiopian for a birthday dinner (I thought it would be too spicy and weird), and I certainly didn't complain. (Except once, about the injera, which isn't like they make it at home.) And then we decided that gelato was mandatory dessert, and we picked up vegetables, and then we played in the pool and watched True Blood (not as annoying as the book) and Futurama (it seems like they were never gone).
( The less crappy photos I took )
