I did not expect that Lee Press-On would be the one to introduce me to somebody like Missy Higgins. (I have no idea how well known she is, but for those lacking knowledge, she's an Australian pop singer/songwriter who seems to have a good head on her shoulders, and does activist work.)

About living 'on the East Coast'. Things are all smooshed together, which comes into sharp relief when you say something flippant like "You guys don't have anything planned for All Hallow's Weekend, let's go to DC for the Rally to Restore Sanity," and they think for a moment and say "OK" and then suddenly you have hotel reservations.
