cyrano: (Pooh Bouncing)
I love sitting around Ann Arbor watching people. It reminds me of being back in Corvallis. The good parts. Things got started late, as Mr. Gaiman's flight was delayed out of SFO because of the Asiana crash yesterday. (San Francisco, I still love you, but watch it.) But once things got started, it was delightful.
*This* is how awesome he is. Neil Gaiman has won *four* Bram Stoker awards. Bram Stoker hasn't won ANY.
But I will say that for somebody who's supposed to be doing his last tour because he doesn't like doing them, mentioning things you want to do on your next tour twice over the course of the evening just makes it sound like you protest too much.
The lateness of the hour made the usual lateness of the signing super late, and so we decided to grab our spiffy new unsigned books and scarper.
Which is kind of a shame. See, a couple of years back I was at one of Michigan's rare used book stores, and I came upon a copy of a novel called "Bikini Planet". I smiled and was about to move on when I saw a blurb on the cover by... Neil Gaiman. Said blurb made me laugh, and I bought the book largely on the presence and strength of that blurb. Later I found out that the blurb was the best part of the novel, and so it has become "that very short Neil Gaiman paperback". And I was going to make him sign it. And also the first edition copy of Smoke and Mirrors.
But it was not to be. ): Alas. Instead we went up Liberty to Taste of India where we had yummy butter chicken.
