Tonight was the birthday present I arranged for Katchoo and Megs--a gondola ride on Lake Merritt up in Oakland. I've been wanting one of my own anyway since folks last year went on a Guild event and came back and told me all sorts of cool things about it. So, two birds with one stone. My wonderful housemate and Tony and AngieDust rounded out our motley crew, and our oarsman Orlando and his assistant took us out just a little after dusk so all the pretty lights were on and the stars were peeking out from behind the clouds which had just been a brilliant pink a little while before, and there was chocolate and grapes and smoked gouda which is a most yummy sort of cheese. And Orlando sang in Italian which once again made me want to go to class. Or at least maybe sing. Angie talked about wanting voice lessons again too.
On the shore was one of the funkiest wedding receptions ever--even Shaft would have felt out of place. The only reception I've heard _Who Let the Dogs Out?_ playing at. But we didn't have to get far away before we couldn't hear that or most of the traffic noise or anything but furiously paddling ducks and the fountain at one corner of the lake and Italian ballads.
And it was lovely--I got to feel, if not chilly, then at least not warm any more. Afterward, we took our becostumed asses to Black Anguish for the devouring of cows and sea bugs.
Tomorrow I will get to wear my nifty rented hat and go see From Hell which has already gotten rave reviews from Ellie and Mark. Then I will try to finish the third session of my 'Increasingly Ill-Named One-Shot Adventure' for Alchema. Who'd have thought that Grosse Pointe Blank had enough meat in it to support that much RP? It must be because I have such scrummy players.
