Take one step and miss the whole first rung

You know how, you're making breakfast and you're thinking hey spaghetti would be nice and you get out the saucepan to boil noodles in but you're not going to need it for a while because you're still making the sauce and baking meatballs so you just set it on top of the canny little burner covers the housemate got and then you get the meatballs out and decide to chop them up because they're just too big and really why do they make them so big it's not like anybody could fit a whole meatball into his mouth which is fine when you're eating them on their own but who eats meatballs on their own anyway, it's always with spaghetti and who wants to take time to chop up a meatball in the middle of eating spaghetti so you chop them all up and then stir them into the sauce with a little extra oregano and sage and then you say yeah I'm ready for noodles so you flip the burner on to high and after about five minutes there's this really funky chemical smell but the water's not getting hot as quickly as you'd expect and then you realize that you forgot to take off the cover which is now charred and shedding paint flakes which fly across the kitchen when you use a fork to flip it free of the glowing orange burner (to which it had slightly adhered because of the heat) and then you forget to turn on the fan in time so the smoke alarm goes off and the cats freak and you feel like an idiot?

Yeah. Me too.

PS: Does anybody know why Amazon and FireFox would hate each other? I sometimes have to hit 'reload' about twenty-five times until I get something besides a blank page. It's only Amazon and if I take the time to switch over to IE it seems to be just fine.

EDIT:
I caught the Menlo Players' Guild in their closing performance last night (apparently today they become the Los Gatos Players) of Comedy of Errors. For some unexplicable reason, everyone was dressed as a Disney character (The Duke had been replaced by the Queen of Hearts, for instance, and Dromeo was Pinocchio) which provided them with extra comedy schticks which I confess I found mostly annoying. Perhaps the idea was that Ephesus is the Happiest Place on Earth? Anyway, that was my biggest complaint, as the rest of the show was nicely done and miked so that even those of us crammed in the back could hear. Lots of broad physical comedy, and even a little softshoe. I do not think that I'm prepared to spend $20 (The ticket price for Los Gatos Shakespeare festival performances) to see their Hamlet or Lion in Winter, which makes me feel a little guilty because I'd like to support local cultchah.

I've seen, on occasion, minimeatballs. but the default are the huge ones. I've only tried making meatballs once so I don't know how hard making littler ones would be.

This is why, the second time I bought burner covers, I got the unpainted stainless ones. I consider it bonehead insurance for myself.

The reason we only have had 3 burner covers is because I did something similar, although it involved turning on the left front burner instead of the left back burner like I meant to.

I think it's just time I bought new ones. :)

Urgh. I was way up at the front, on a blanket. I was dealing with a small version of hell on the phone at intermission, so I was cloistered was in the back near the sound booth for all of that, and then talking with folks after. I knew almost everyone in the cast.

I hear you about the strange staging--this was a sort of unusual thing for them. They usually do 2 Shakespeares and a children's show. This year, they tried to compromise by making one of the Shakespeares into the children's show; hence the strangenss. I didn't particularly like it as a show, but I always love Bruce's technique at spinning comedic, particularly physical comedic, bits together, so i enjoyed that part. I would recommend giving their Hamlet a try (although I have my doubts about the lead actor) before you give up on FTE entirely. :)

I certainly haven't given up on them. I'm just a bit spooked by the price tag. (: Hamlet is one of my favorites, and the writing for LiW makes me wrinkle up my toes and hug myself, it's just that between medical bills and Ashland, the $5 I dropped in the donation jar Sunday night is more my speed. I need Groundling ticket prices!
I hope your Hell has moved upward a level or two. (Fingers crossed for the 'virtuous pagans' level!)

I'd been wondering if the Menlo Park people turned into the Los Altos people or if they were two separate groups just doing an identical list of shows. I am glad to be enlightened. And I'm also glad to hear about CoE, since I don't think I need to go see it now, and that means only two shows to definitely make in July, which seems much more plausible.
