You have me thinking about the conservatives who think there is too much government regulation and that we should let companies regulate themselves. This is what happens in a pure capitalist market. The drive to reduce manufacturing costs so you can compete with other companies and make a profit leads to using shortcuts that may be detrimental to the customers. Of course the customers don't know what is in the product so they can't make an informed decision.
