cyrano: (blipvert)

Today was spent on the couch. There was six months worth of Hellboy/BPRD comics to get caught up on (and now I am impatiently waiting for the next delivery), and also the Bourne Marathon.
The housemate and I rented the first two Bourne movies before jetting off to the cinema to see its conclusion.

This was an immensely satisfying film, and more so because of watching them in a row. One of the things we noted was that, for an action film, these require some thought. Or at least paying attention. Stuff happens, and they don't spell it out for you. And it moves quickly. These movies work well as individual pieces and also as a single story, unlike many sequel/trilogy projects. Each film unwraps the next layer of the onion, delving further into the heart of the story. I don't know how much of this was intentional, but I loved the way it flowed. The characters are interesting and engaging. Plus, anything with Julia Stiles warms my heart. Especially punky gothy Julia Stiles leaving her ex-boyfriend at the station without telling him that he's her ex and doesn't remember it. And Matt Damon's Bourne occasionally has the crap beat out of him, and he actually seems stiff and halt and damaged afterward. He does smart things, he thinks quickly, and he acts like I would expect a well trained field agent to. Nicky, while still smart, does things that make me lean over and say "*Not* a well trained field agent." There's a car chase (one of the obligatory ones required by federal law) where a motorbike downsides and crashes into a car. And then neither one of them explodes. That made me happy.

I probably had more spoilery things to say when I started, but I've already forgotten. None of the trailers really had me doing anything beyond thinking "Hrm. I should keep an eye on that and find out if it's worth seeing." Meryl Streep was in back to back lefty agitprop movies, and that amused me.
