No random sampling. Plus, there's a theme. Googling is still considered cheating. Song and artist, if you can get it.

1. You knew just what I was there for Blue Moon -- Elvis Presley, jholloway
2. I would gaze at your face the whole night through Sister Moon -- Sting, lil_m_moses
3. You are all I long for, all I worship and adore Fly Me to the Moon -- Frank Sinatra, kirbyk
4. I could shine all over you -- I'm crying to Earth Sun Moon -- Love & Rockets, windrose
5. Spacewalk is like a spacewalk, with the corresponding weight loss Nightgown of the Sullen Moon -- They Might Be Giants, kirbyk
6. Like coming home, and you don't know where you've been. Like black coffee, like nicotine, Hawkmoon 269 -- U2, kirbyk
7. They're not your words, but you're reciting the lines. You don't mean a thing, but you exist in their minds Smog Moon -- Matthew Sweet, princess_mei
8. And then he flies up to the wall, stands on one foot, doesn't even fall Kiko and the Lavender Moon -- Los Lobos, windrose
9. And right now all your dreams are waking up, and right now I wish I could follow you
10. Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. Walking on the Moon -- The Police, senatorhatty
11. When it’s sugarcane time, and around about June
12. Money, art, a broken heart, where did you want to go?
13. He will wait until you give yourself to him Killing Moon -- Echo and the Bunnymen, senatorhatty
14. There's no law--no law any more. I want to steal from the rich, and give to the poor.
15. If you're lucky you get to ride in a gold meteorite. If you're not, you get a mouth, a mouthful of red Kryptonite
16. Easy come, easy go, be a star of the show. I'm giving up all I know to get more

EDIT: It doesn't take long for the theme to become apparent. (: Happy eclipse.

What does no random sampling mean? I only know 10 and 13 and I already know the theme.

"No random sampling" means that I didn't do the usual gig of "Hit Random on my iTunes and post lyrics to the first twenty songs on the list". Well. Unless they're instrumentals. Or spoken word bits, or movie quotes.

If I am allowed to just guess what I know (feel free to delete this if not)

10. Walking on the Moon by the Police
13. The Killing Moon by echo and the bunnymen (one of the best songs EVAR)

And clearly these are moon-related songs in some manner.

Hee. You're allowed pretty much whatever you like. (Except Googling for the lyrics! Bad Googler! Bad, bad Googler!) And they're both absolutely correct.

4 = Earth+Sun+Moon by Love & Rockets
8 = Kiko and the Lavender Moon by Los Lobos
13 = The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunnymen

I recognize a couple of the others, but I'm blanking on the titles and I'm late for work, anyway.

3. Fly Me To The Moon. Is this a Sinatra originally?
5. Nightgown of the Sullen Moon, They Might Be Giants. Obscure!
6. Hawkmoon 269, U2

1. Blue Moon. I don't know who the original performer/composer is.

Sadly, the only one I know is the title piece, Sting's "Sister Moon" (#2).

Hee. There are a couple I dropped in there pretty much just for you. You usually don't play, so I wasn't sure if you'd see them.

My version is Sinatra, but he didn't record it until about ten years after it was written. And, hey, Nightgown is on their 'greatest hits' album so it can't be *too* obscure. (:

My version is Elvis Presley, but it was written by Rogers and Hart in 1934 and rewritten several times before actually being recorded and *not* cut and stuffed in a closet.

I suspect you know a few more but don't recognize them. At least, that's what happens to me.
