I figure I should get this in now, because this weekend is going to be crazy.

Friday! More specifically, It's Friday Ask Me A Question Day!

Go on, then, sweetie, don't be shy. Speak up!

I've probably asked you something like this before, but: what is it about Rosencrantz & Guildenstern (characters, concepts, play, whatever) that appeals to you?

A lot of things appeal to me. Mainly, though, it's about perspective. I'm very big on perspective; look at something, then take a step to the right and look again, because it suddenly looks completely different. The dialogue is also delightful.

Why did we move to an only occasionally-plowed area just before the (so far) two biggest snowstorms of the year hit?

Because your neighbors didn't move with you. Remember the neighbors!

You know, that's really not a very good battle cry...=D Ah well.

If the hypothetical Ifamaq tribe -- probably from somewhere north of the 49th parallel on the North American continent -- had some sort of tribal ritual for which they were quite famous, what would I have experienced if I had been ifamaq'd?

Cheating bonus second question: How has that ritual changed over time from its original form, several millenia ago, until the present day?

In the days before remembering, the Ifamaq would take a day and accost the most charming man of the tribe. They would spend the day asking him questions--personal questions, rhetorical questions, questions of portent, questions of intent, questions of import, questions of implication. They would ask until their tongues bled and their jaws ached, because the more questions he could answer and the more witty his responses, then the more luck the tribe would see in the days ahead. After a particularly resplendant ritual, seals would throw themselves up onto the shore in order to be more easily speared, and fruit bearing bushes would burst up through the icy ground to provide their harvest.

There was a long stretch of time when this ritual fell fallow. The tribe felt they had banked enough good fortune that it was unneeded. But recently there has been a resurgence, a turning back to the old ways, a revival if you would; once again, young cocksure warriors wrestle bare handed with the elk to show their bravery, and once again the tribe brings forth their questions. They feel certain that nothing in the ritual has changed; from a scientific perspective, however, there is no way to verify this.
