I can't watch streaming movies from Netflix because it requires WDZXP or greater.
And now TiVo says that WDZ2K is too antiquated for its software.

Looks like it's time for an upgrade.

I think I have an xp pro disk I'm not using that is still good, if you want.

Or Ubuntu or OS X.

That sounds tempting. How much backing up do I need to do, would you think, before installing a new OS? Everything on C: drive? Everything on the actual hard drive?

I think my disk will not let you upgrade, you would need to rename one or two critical files if you didn't want to reformat C:. Just install to \winxp rather than the default \windows (give this a try before the delete files).

You will need to reinstall all of your apps in any event. If C: is formated fat, I'd convert to NTFS.

SInce you ought to have a backup anyhow, why not format C:?
