I think part of the reason there is so much CRAP in my life is that I collect mementos or notes or reminders of events or people in the past because otherwise, as soon as those events or people fall out of my mind, they're gone and there's nothing I have to bring them back.

I think this is the exact reason I keep my blog. It's fun to get things down for later review, even if there's no particular rhyme or reason to what actually makes it in. But every bit I do get down helps me remember other things, and that's what matters.

I do the same. I suggest a filing box and/or boxes...I have a dedicated box for two of my exes, a folder in my filing box for another, a smaller box for tickets and such, a box for cards, a box for old elementary school notes, etc.

I'm starting to photograph items that remind me of past times but otherwise have no value to me. At some point, these items may make it into a journal entry, or they may not.

I agree with Rose that merely making a journal entry helps. I periodically read through old entries, and it always sets off a chain of memories. What's interesting is that a given journal entry will spark different sets of memories each time I read it.

I kind of do what Rose does too, but then I seal the box up not to be opened. I have gotten rid of my toxic's ex-fiance's letters and things, though he did write some good erotic love letters with fine penmanship and great stationary. I still have a few left, but I know that after the damage he has done, the best is to throw it away.

In the wake of my last Journal post, I find that some people are just not as sentimental and feeling as I thought they were. So sometimes, I guess as humans we have to be the same way. Some memories need to be held onto others just need to be let go.

I have one of my dresser drawers dedicated to items which are too sentimental for me to part with. Whenever it fills up, or when I move, I go through it and see if I can part with any of it. So far, it works pretty well, although I run out of space for clothes sometimes since I'm clogging up a drawer with crap.
