Today I thought of what it would be like if things kept going the way they are now, more or less until I have run the course of my days.

I used to do that. Then I realized that the future is a tricksy beast, and there is no way to predict what it will do. It may be a cliche, but the only constant in life really is change.

Goodness, I hope not. To have no new challenges, no new joys, everything exactly the same as it is right now? To not have learned anything (you ARE in the middle of a huge learning curve)? Suck.

It won't. I promise. I can't promise it will be better, though I also can't say that it will be worse. But I can safely guarantee that it will be different.

Because I like you, I'll tell you a secret: There are no straight lines.

Sometimes there are curved bits with rather large radii, but those are rarer than most suppose. The observation I have of myself is that the reduction in radius of curvature is often quite visible before I reach it, but I don't believe it because I'm thinking in straight lines. Maybe that's my engineering education, but I suspect it's a tendency of the Western Mind. I blame Descartes.
